This book is a fraud. It says it is a Torchwood book but it is not. This is how it reads. Someone wrote a book. They wanted to get published so they changed one of their characters to Suzie---a 2 episode character from Torchwood. They added one brief flashback sequence involving real Torchwood characters. They sold it as a Torchwood book. I looked at every page but didn't read it. This is so lame. Didn't the BBC look at this?Product details

Probably the best out of the three, but I didn't particularly like it.
It wasn't bad, just not really that interesting of a story.
Hoped for more. The story wasn't bad, but the characterizations were weak and there was a tremendous amount of repetition. Probably would have worked better as a novella. It's also a bit misleading, in that it's a Suzie story, with only references to any others on the team.
I read this book hoping for so much more. Suzie Costello is a dark mysterious character, the agent who betrays Torchwood and gets killed (multiple times). And compared to the other agents, we don't know anything about Suzie... after all, she was dead before the backstory-rich episode "Fragments" which told us how everyone joined Torchwood. All we know about Suzie is that she was on the run and that she hates her father... hates him enough to kill him after she herself has been resurrected.
I wanted this story to delve deep into the character of Suzie; I wanted backstory with flashbacks to how she met Jack and an explanation for why she hated her father so much. But I didn't get any of that.
Instead, we get Suzie with no plan and no real character development; a new Detective Inspector who is well-written but have never met before, which gave me little reason to care about him; and a threat from the rift that is quite creepy. In the end, this is a well written novel but not the novel I wanted to read.
If the author had chosen to focus more on the characters of Suzie and Tom Costello instead of showing us more and more victims of the Rift shadows, I feel like I could have gotten more of what I wanted... in sum, well written but probably not what most Torchwood fans are looking for.
Really enjoyed this more than I was expecting. What some of the other reviews have taken as a negative---that most of the usual Torchwood characters do not appear in this---I found to be a big positive. The books are never going to be as "big" as the television show, so Pinborough made the right choice by focusing in on one character Suzie Costello. And having the actress Indira Varma narrate this made it that much better.
This is not a checklist for Torchwood fans. It's not a rote listing of facts from other media so you can go "lol I caught that reference!" No, this is a real novel, with real-seeming characters. In particular, I love the thought that Pinborough places into what it must be like to be the twice-dead Suzie torn between confusion and the exultant "I outlasted the rest of you jerks) attitude is a damaged woman trying to maintain her grip on a situation rapidly spinning out of control.
A pleasant surprise!
The book tells the story of Susie after she awakens in the destroyed hub. I did not find Susie terribly interesting and do not know why BBC wasted a book on her. I would have preferred a group book.
A fantastic follow up to the episode "They keep killing Suzie" from the Torchwood series. The character of Suzie Costello, who was played by the gorgeous Indira Varma, is back. She is out to make Torchwood and the residents of Cardiff pay.
Can anyone, even the amazing Captain Jack Harkness, stop her this time around?!?!
TORCHWOOD LONG TIME DEAD is another welcome addition to the TORCHWOOD library of books. For fans of the show, you will love this novel, as it delivers your need for a TORCHWOOD fix in spades! The characters are well developed and the plot is tight, with just the right amount of suspense. Many readers will be looking for more novels in this series, especially after reading this one.
